User Generated Content Moderation

We design, deploy and manage a growing number of both photo and video UGC (user generated content) promotions for music labels and other companies in the entertainment industry and one of the questions that comes up more and more frequently is - how is the content moderated?

Although a lot of our promotions do not require moderation or have basic moderation features built in (that allow clients and administrator to remove offending content quickly and easily) some of our more visible promotions (Pepsi, Disney, Viacom, One Direction, Miley Cyrus, i.e.) do require extensive moderation tools and technology.

For these types of promotions, we have advanced moderation dashboards (like the one below from the Miley Cyrus #WECANTSTOP campaign) that allow us and our clients to effectively manage, verify, and screen both video and photo submissions for approval. Our moderation dashboard has the following features and functionality:

  • Works with all Metablocks UGC applications
  • Ideally suited for screening, video and photo contests, video collection and download (for fan generated videos)
  • Age verification features (compare a users "stated" age against their Facebook or Twitter profiles)
  • Additional verification tools (send out an email that asks user to perform a more thorough verification)
  • Ability to send out and accept release, permission and other forms necessary to use fan content
  • Ability to flag both content and users (banning them)
  • Individual and group voting capabilities (to support video and photo contests)
  • Export and download features (including bulk download)
  • Black and white listing (across multiple campaign, we also keep track of known abusers)
  • SMS (Texting) support and notification
  • Mobile access
